Diesel Driving Experience

We began with a tour of the engine sheds where we could see various pieces of rolling stock undergoing restoration. The eight drivers on the day were split into two groups. I took turns in the morning driving a Class 47 diesel-electric locomotive built by Brush at Loughborough in 1965. This session was followed by a buffet lunch for the drivers and guests in a stationery carriage used as a bar. In the afternoon, or group took turns to drive a railcar (or DMU), built in 1958, with the guests as passengers. This allowed my wife to take photos and videos when I was driving. The experience is very popular and there are only two or three days available to book each month.

The whole experience was a joy. Venue,people, wine and food was fantastic. The actual wine tasting was far better than i expected and the lady who conducted it was very knowledgable and also hilarious. Stayed the night and had one of the best breakfasts in a long time.

Really enjoyed the day, well organised although the q for the media van was massive - so swerved this. 1975 Aston a bit ropey - but the DB9 and V8 vanquish were amazing drives. As a suggestion - maybe look at what you do with "child" drivers as they did get in the way on a couple of laps. I didn't realise it was possible to drive a Porsche so slowly!
