The evening closed around 22:30PM with a spectacular firework display and gave audience members the opportunity to sing-along and wave their English flags in the air. Certainly, a feel-good experience.

The evening began with a Napoleonic Cavalry Display at around 18:15PM, where you could either relax, sit in your seats and watch on the big screen or walk to the side of the stage to enjoy the mounted skill-at-arms display up close and personal. Soon, followed by The Red Devils gracing the Proms Concert with a magnificent freefall demonstration at 18:45PM. Approximately, 5 members of The Red Devils jumped from the skies over the concert and landed 20 metres from the side of the stage. The music began with ‘The Vignettes’, a duo who sang a range of classic vintage favourites, for old times’ sake. Most people were up and dancing at this point, enjoying the music and starting the night off right! Before the Orchestra commenced, the evening gun salute went off to open the musical programme with the arrival of a Spitfire. Shortly after, the musical programme got into full swing at this point where a large range of classical favourites were played by the New English Concert Orchestra. The whole evening was presented by Pam Rhodes, who commentated and gave historical background to each section of the evening or song, that was about to take place. The evening closed around 22:30PM with a spectacular firework display and gave audience members the opportunity to sing-along and wave their English flags in the air. Certainly, a feel-good experience. This experience is for any anyone who enjoys being outside on a summer’s evening with classical music and a bottle of Fizz. Families, couples and friends all joined in the entertainment. The Battle of the Proms is a wonderful experience and as long as the British weather holds out, you will undoubtedly have the best evening all summer.

Top Tip

Bring your jacket to wrap up warm, for the evening, as we all know what the British summer is like!

Very much one for the older generation, I feel, with copious drafts of nostalgia from WW2. Venue and organisation were fine though I would advise arriving well after the gates have opened unless you want to be twiddling your thumbs in the car park for hours and then waiting a long time for the concert to actually start. Felt the cavalry display was rather pointless as it was difficult to see what was happening unless you had a ringside seat. The commentary on this display was less than scintillating too. Highlights were the Red Devils and the Spitfire display. Music was fine though the ladies singing WW2 classics were a little OTT. All in all, it was an OK experience hence the 3 star rating but rather too jingoistic in tone for my liking. Wouldn’t go again. Should mention that the weather was poor and I caught covid there too so possibly my views are coloured a little by these negative aspects! If you enjoy the Proms proper then you’ll probably like it…

This was my intro to live orchestral music and it didn't disappoint. It was neck tingling! The weather was fantastic which definitely helped and looking around at some of the other people I clearly need to learn how to picnic properly! There were a variety of performances; singers, calvary demo, sky divers, Spitfire fly-by and fireworks as well as the music. If you don't get good weather I think it would detract quite a lot from the experience. Would definitely do it again; just next time get there about 2 hours before the start is it got VERY packed VERY quickly.

We were bought a Battle Proms voucher as a present. We chose the Highclere Castle venue. THE best day. The concert was absolutely fabulous full of wonderful music and poignant reminders of those who have been lost in war. We stayed at Pilgrims Guest house 10 minutes drive from the castle. All in all THE most enjoyable day

The evening was spectacular, of course the marvellous weather helped but the Battle proms were unforgettable, especially the spitfire. The orchestra were superb.
