The problem here is not the venue, but the fact that the 'gift card' gives little idea as to just where it can be used, and this was the closest one, but still took 2 hours to reach. The afternoon tea segment does at least have more local sites. Ecclesbourne is nice although a number of the elements were closed which detracted a bit and while it was advertised as free parking on arrival we were confronted with parking kiosks which fortunately while active were not being used. By now they are supposed to be live. Somewhere to visit again? Only if I'm up that way for other reasons at a weekend ...

This was a gift from a friend of ours as part of our joint 50th present and we didn’t really know what to expect. We were heading down to Glastonbury area and so booked our trip on the East Somerset Railway for our experience. It was magical. It was like stepping back in time and into a more relaxed way of living. We arrived a bit late and were worried about the train departing without us but were greeted by an older gentleman who assured us the train wouldn’t leave without us. The staff were incredibly helpful, friendly and attentive and even though the trip was only a couple of miles it was absolutely brilliant! We have absolutely zero interest in heritage machinery but I cannot recommend this experience highly enough! It was fascinating and to sit inside the old carriages and smell the smoke and feel the chugging and the noises. It was a feast for the senses! Absolutely brilliant time! And a heart felt thanks to all the people who work there!

What a lovely stretch of railway carriages were the old vintage type, with plenty of seats available Only down side was no steam engine as lack of volunteers, but still enjoyed the 22-mile journey

While we had a lovely day out we were Disappointed that the steam train couldn't run because the weather was very hot, and the scenery was spoilt because of all the big hedges and lack of scenery, However the village was lovely and we had a great pub lunch.

Had a wonderful day ,the days weather made it even better. We didn't intend to go to Ecclesbourne we bought the steam experience intending to go to Skipton but this train experience is not available anymore but is still on the itinerary list.
