Just sit back, relax and enjoy!!

What did you get up to? We arrived at Nene Valley Railway, Wansford a little early, so we sat in the Café and had a Cornish pasty and Cappuccino. We then went outside and walked about until it was time to board the train. You had a choice of private booths or public, we decided on a private booth. First stop Yarwell this is the end of the track in the opposite direction to Peterborough. On route you go through a tunnel that lasts approx. 2 minutes our very knowledgeable conductor Andrew told us that this was the tunnel that was used in the James Bond movie Octopussy. We got off while we waited for the train engine to turn around to go back to Wansford and onto Peterborough, first stop on the journey to Peterborough is Overton where we stepped off for 5 minutes to take in the lovely morning sun and waited for more passengers to board, next stop Orton. Once we got to Peterborough, we took a lovely stroll into town, where we wondered about the malls and shops. On our way back to the station for our journey back home, we stopped along the canal and watch the people feeding the duck and swans. On our journey back we decided to sit in the public booths, we ordered something to drink from the Buffet car on the train, it is very well stocked with food, drinks and all sorts. There are lovely little gift shops at all the stations where you are able to purchase memorabilia or some lovely goodies. What did you enjoy the most? Our favourite part of this experience was chatting to Andrew the conductor whom is very knowledgeable and just taking in the lovely country side. The sheer beauty of the Autunm colours with the changing season.

    Interesting tour and enjoyable tasting session. The wines were good, in my opinion the beers need a bit of work (I'm a longstanding CAMRA member). Having had the tour, a nice lunch provided on-site by the food van, then in the evening return transport was laid on to a local pub for evening meal. The breakfast next day was good. Obviously, all this was on top of the original tasting voucher. Overall organisation was very good.

    My husband and I stepped back in time on a relaxing steam train ride. It was wonderful to reminisce back to our childhoods. All staff were so good. Something I would recommend and actually repeat myself.

    This activity was sold as tea and steam train. However tea was on a separate day and the train ride was 11mins down line get out and watch engine position, then 11 mins back. Good day for train enthusiasts but not how it was sold. Those operating the train were excellent. In addition we had to travel over 2hours to get there.

    I was not given the option to book seats on the steam train so when we arrived 3 of the 4 carriages had bookings for afternoon teas provided by an outside provider so on the journey back we had to stand. We were told they were not able to add another carriage on this day. So disappointed with this. More organisation in the booking system would be appreciated in the future. But we made the most of the trip.

    Excellent day out, the station & train were lovely, full of praise for the volunteers who keep this going, lots of things to see, very nice cafe on site & the food looked very good but due to other commitments we didn’t have time to see everything & try out the cafe menu.     This experience exceeded our expectations. We weren't quite sure what to expect with this gift voucher apart from a ride on a steam train. It was lovely to see the old steam train and also the whole set up was amazing. The station, old ticket office, old W H Smith store, signal box and workshops were fascinating and we learnt a great deal. The cafe, although quite small served lovely food and we had lunch and later on a slice of afternoon cake and tea. We ended up spending over 4 hours there which included 2 trips on the train. A very worthwhile experience which we thoroughly enjoyed.
