Step back in time and immerse yourself in wartime Britain with this exhilarating tank driving experience! Take command of a 15-tonne military marvel for 2 heart-pounding laps around a historic WWII bombing range. It’s the ultimate way to dip your toes into the world of tank driving while soaking up a slice of history.

You’ll be joined by two other brave souls in the tank, taking turns to drive this mighty beast. When it’s your turn to take the wheel, you’ll start with the hatch open, but soon enough, you’ll close it and navigate using just the periscope. Get a real taste of battlefield life as you tackle the rugged terrain!

When you’re not driving, kick back in the turret seat and revel in the thrill of being a passenger. Enjoy panoramic views of the breathtaking Leicestershire countryside as you rumble along.

Plus, your adventure includes free access to the on-site museum, packed with an impressive collection of military vehicles. From a 1947 Bell 47G helicopter to a classic 1940s M4 105 Sherman, and even tanks from iconic films like Saving Private Ryan, there’s plenty to explore!

Before you jump into the driver’s seat, you’ll get a brief on the tank to ensure you’re ready for all the tank-tastic fun. Then, gear up with a uniform and helmet and get ready to conquer the tough terrain for two thrilling laps. This is a gift experience that promises excitement and a hefty dose of history!

for the second lap with the hatch lid down, which is where it gets fun!

What did your experience entail? The location was very easy to find and well signposted on route, there was also a tank strategically located at the top of the drive which led to the venue. I parked close to the archery range and changed into old trainers before heading over to the reception. I was slightly early so had a wander around the museum and grabbed a coffee while waiting for my experience to start at 12.00. Mick our instructor introduced himself and the other two people in the group, before fitting me with a safety helmet and briefing us on how the experience would run and how to safely move around the tank. Mick was great, his humour mixed with his knowledge and enthusiasm was perfect. I drove the tank for two consecutive laps, for the first lap my head was out of the top providing good visibility, familiarising myself with the leavers and manoeuvring the machine, for the second lap with the hatch lid down, which is where it gets fun! My view was now restricted to only being able to see via a letterbox size window whilst receiving instructions from Mick via a head-set. After being in the driving seat for two laps which was great fun, we all moved one seat, anticlockwise this provided each of us with new position / role within the tank for a total of six laps. I can honestly say being a passenger was almost as much fun as driving. What did you enjoy the most? There had been a couple of days of rain prior to my experience so the course was muddy with some large, water filled potholes. It was great fun driving through these knowing that the machine would just breeze through.

Top Tip

1. Be the third person in the driving seat if you want to reverse park a tank!

I eventually got around to using my tank driving experience from last year on my birthday this year. The weather wasn’t perfect which made the tank museum a little glum . but the driving experience was great and I throughly enjoyed my time . The instructor was friendly and knowledgeable and I would recommend this to anyone who is interested in military history etc or just a fantastic experience for anyone who wants to experience something completely different.,the only negative thing is the toilets could do with a update as seen better days :.nowhere to wash of dirty foot wear before getting back in the car . It would be an idles if they advised you to bring a spare pare of boots upon making the booking,. Also the catering van wasn’t excellent and little choice :,other than than I wouldn’t hesitate to go again

I had to drive for nearly three hours there and back, but it was a lovely day and worth it. The staff were excellent, friendly, helpful, knowledgeable and very professional. I personally did not use the coveralls that they provided but I would next time. If you are claustrophobic this is not for you. The actual driving is very easy to pick up, but you do need muscles to drive it. Think of a car without power steering, although you do not have a wheel just two levers. The museum is small but crammed with great stuff. I would do it again if it was closer and they would let me go faster although I understand the reason why I couldn't. 5 *****

This was a brilliant experience. It was good value for money as it took an hour to do the circuits and swap around with other participants. Mike, our guide, was lovely. I have recommended this to loads of people and will probably do it again.

My wife brought me this as a 50th birthday present and only driving experience I could do without a licence. Great experience with great instructor and easy to get hang of. 2 laps in driving seat on with hatch open and other with hatch closed then 2 laps as gunner, great photos of the laps but did cost £25 but that's optional and great museum at end with tanks and other military vehicles.

A really fun day out. I had a great instructor and more importantly there wasn't anything to crash the tank into for miles.
