Our favourite part of the experience was exploring the beautiful country walks

What did you get up to? We visited the Jug and Glass Inn, in Buxton for an overnight stay with our dog, Cookie. The Inn was easy to find located along the A515. Vicky and the team were great, very attentive and welcoming to us and everyone who came in, and clearly animal lovers themselves. Our room was cosy, well maintained and clean with good bedding and towels. Having Cookie with us they had kindly allocated us a room close to a back door should we need access outside in during the night. After a short dog walk along the Pennine Bridleway (an old railway line) we returned to the cosy bar for a hearty roast beef dinner and crumble pudding and an evening relaxing with the locals, other guests and Cookie who loved all the attention! Following a comfortable night’s sleep and full English breakfast we set off to explore a number of local attractions on Vicky’s recommendation. What did you enjoy the most? Our favourite part of the experience was exploring the beautiful country walks, it is a bit ‘fresh’ in September but made returning to a cosy friendly pub for the evening even more welcoming.

Top Tip

1. Take playing cards – sit in the bar with a drink and enjoy the friendly county pub atmosphere 2. Wear Layers – The weather may change quickly 3. Visit the Old Cheese Shop just down the road in Hartington – amazing selection!

Lovely pub and room. Despite not having any dog friendly walks directly on the doorstep because the road didn't have a pavement, the surrounding garden was fine for our chocolate lab’s immediate needs. Food was very tasty.

Pub was very nice, great location but not exactly set up for dogs. Beer garden small but nice enough. Food was good and breakfast was great. Area is lovely for great walks and views.

We thoroughly enjoyed our dog friendly stay at The Old Mill in Hordle, Lymington. We paid extra to have the room inside The Millers House which is situated on the grounds slightly which was perfect and definitely worth the upgrade. The room had a private terrace which made it so much easier for our dog Lottie to be able to go outside as and when she wanted. They even provided a dog bed and bowls. We will definitely consider going back again soon.

Our hosts, Vicky and Darryl were very warm and welcoming as we arrived. Our breakfasts were included and we requested evening meals both days. A log fire made eating at the Inn very comfortable and cosy. The Derbyshire weather, in January, was cold, wet and murky making the log fire and warm bedroom most pleasant. A thoroughly enjoyable mini break, despite the weather!

The receptionist was extremely efficient . The food was fine but with a limited menu in the evening. The breakfast was superb: crispy bacon & really tasty sausages compared with most places. The duvet could have been a lot thicker for the time of year because there were no extra blankets supplied. The bath towels, although lovely & clean were very small.

The venue was amazing, as were the hosts and loads of things to see and do in the local area. Unfortunately the booking process from usemygift was absolutely shocking. Long winded to the point t where we were just going to sack it off entirely but thankfully persevered and got an amazing weekend out of it. Next time we would book directly and avoid usemygift at all costs.
