What happens on the day
Your day will begin with a riding assessment, overview of equipment and an introduction to the history of jousting. You’ll participate in a variety of activities on and off a horse, including learning how to neck rein your steed and how to use a flag, lance and shield, before practising lancing rings in the end of your lance and striking the feared quintaine, or man-shaped spinning target. After a break for lunch you’ll learn a choreographed fight sequence, including the medieval broad sword and quarterstaff fighting, plus a chance to practice your aim with an English Longbow, time permitting. Then it’s off to get dressed in medieval costume and armour to put all you have learnt into action during a mini tournament called the Gauntlet Challenge. The day will climax with a chance to challenge the Black Knight to a joust and try and knock him from his steed.

- Maximum weight 20 stone (127 kgs)
- Riding experience is not essential, but you must have a reasonable level of fitness.
